Why This Site...?
Firstly, thank you for taking a look at my site. I thought that I would just take a few moments to explain why this site, and my other church related site, Robs Churches, were created.
Just after the turn of the New Year in 2004, my Father passed away after an illness lasting around five years. I had cared for him as well as I could in that time, but he passed away in hospital and I was devestaed.
A few months later and I was having problems coping. Some days were fine but on others I could barely function. A friend recommended taking long walks. This did a lot of good, and one Sunday afternoon I walked from my own village in Chesterton, near Peterborough, to Castor a few miles away.
Castor church was open, and I sat in there for quite a time, just taking things in and enjoying the total peace and quiet that I found in there. From that I developed an interest in churches and this led to the formation of my first web site, Robs Churches. This looked at village churches within a 15 miles radius of Peterborough.
This gave me something to do, and gave me some exercise as well with many of the churches being visited by cycle.
What started off as a gradual interest rapidly built until it got to the stage where I was out and about most weekend, looking for somewhere new to visit.
In my first year of churchcrawling, I developed an interest in the gargoyles and grotesques that are often to be found on churches.
It was for this reason that I decided to open up a second site, with this site purely being a series of galleries showing nothing but the gargoyles and grotesques seen on my travels
The galleries on this site are divided up in to the counties that I visit. I photograph in Cambridgeshire, East Northants, South Lincs and Rutland, with the odd forray in to Norfolk. Pictures will be added as and when I find any good enough to include.

Robs Churches, the name of this other site, covers about eighty village churches within a 15 miles radius of Peterborough, as well as having a section of the site devoted to churches that I have visited which are further away.
