HEMINGTON. CHURCH : ST PETER & ST PAUL

The church of St Peter & St Paul, Hemington is a favourite place of mine to visit. It is just a mile and a half from Luddington in the Brooke, which has some of the finest grotesques that I have seen in Northamptonshire. It is quiet and peaceful, and I always try and have a lunch break here, amid some beautifully preserved and intricately carved late Seventeenth Century graves. Some building work has been done on this church and I am assuming that the gargoyles here, are from the same time as the restorations. Possibly Victorian? Lovely selection, with the eyes being very impressive on several of them. Love the sneering indifference on the gargoyle pictured bottom left.
