Luddington IN THE BROOK. CHURCH : ST MARGARET
Luddington in the Brooke is a very small village in East Northamptonshire. Small village, and a small church, but this church is rich in gargoyles and grotesques, boasting one of the best selections that I have seen in that county. I am tempted to say that this church boasts, arguably, one of the best selections within a 20 mile radious of Peterborough. Particularly fond of the dog pictured top left, a postman's worst nightmare with wide eyes and snarling fangs. The toothless hag crawling out of the wall pictured immediately above is another favourite. Also worthy of note is the "startled Owl" gargoyle to be found in the bottom right hand corner of this page.
Any lover of gargoyles and grotesques who is visiting this church, might care to have a look at neighbouring Hemington which also has some very fine, albeit relatively modern, gargoyles.
Absolutely super suff and well worth a look if you are in the area.
