QUARRINGTON. CHURCH : ST BOTOLPH
Insert body text here...
Considering that it was so close to Sleafird, the church of St Botolph at Quarrington was remarkably peaceful and quiet. I ended up spending a very enjoyable half an hour here, in blinding sunshine. Ending up taking more photographs of the local wildlife than the church but, in between snapping a tame grey squirrel, I did take the two photographs included above. Quite fond of the grotesque pictured above right.
SILK WILLOUGHBY. CHURCH : ST DENIS
Lots to look at, at the church of St Denis at Silk Willoughby. But sadly, much of it was very worn. Some beautiful looking quality gargoyles and grotesques to be found here, but sadly the ravages of time have taken their toll. The four pictured above were some of the best that I managed to shoot. Visitors to this church might want to look out for an exquisite butter cross which can be found just outside the church.
SWATON. CHURCH : ST MICHAEL
A slightly frustrating experience here, trying to shoot the gargoyles on each corner of the tower in absolutely blinding sunshine and having to shoot between tree branches. The four pictures enclosed are the best of a fairly bad bunch! Very nice church grounds, but beware the nettles if you are wearing shorts! Got stung a few times whilst trying to capture some images of an 18th Century deaths head stone in a delightfully overgrown part of the churchyard.
WITHAM ON THE HILL. CHURCH : ST ANDREW
A truly miserable Friday morning! After photographing nearby Edenham in indifferent light early on that morning, the weather quickly closed in and I arrived at Witham On The Hill at about the same time as the rain, which then proceded to fall for most of the rest of the morning. I quickly snapped these two pretty ancient looking grotsques before the rain forced me to the mercifully unlocked church.
