LINCOLNSHIRE GALLERY 7

BOOTHBY PAGNALL. CHURCH : ST ANDREW

This was a frustrating experience. Early on the third day of a cycling tour and I was headed towards Grantham. I had just visited Corby Glen and been frustrated with the light quality.

Sadly, the light was equally as bad as I re3ached Boothby Pagnall. I took some long range shots of the church in the backgrond with cows grazing in foreground. These came out very badly, as did other exterior shots that I took. With the sun threatening to break through I decided to hang around for a while to see if it would improve. Sadly, the sun gave up the ghost and hid behind the clouds for another two hours and I gave up. In fairness, the above images of some very fine grotesques on this church came out a little better than I thought. Still on the dull side though!

BOURNE. CHURCH : ST PETER & ST PAUL

A damp, miserable, Friday afternoon which followed on from an even damper, more miserable Friday morning! The last day of a cycling tour of South Lincolnshire and church number 54. Was feeling a little jaded by the time that I photographed these two ancient looking gargoyles on the South wall of this lovely church. One or two very unusual mid 17th Century graves to be found here as well.

SWARBY. CHURCH : ST MARY & ALL SAINTS

Just off the A15, in between Bourne and Sleaford, the church of St Mary and All Saints, Swarby, had enough to keep me interested for a while. Gargoyles surround the tower, invluding a pretty ancient looking one pictured top right. Interestingly, this one has its spout coming out of its chin, rather than the mouth. The two below that are much more modern. This church was restored in the mid 1880's, and I tend to think that these two would probably have dated from that time.

OSBOURNBY. CHURCH : ST PETER & ST PAUL

Popped in to Osbournby on the way back from Sleaford. Decided tat this would make as good a place as any to stop off for a late lunch. Quite beautiful afternoon, with glorious sunshine. Snapped the two images above whilst letting my lunch digest a little. The follically challenged stone head on the left was from the south wall. The gargoyle to the right of that was in shadow on the north wall. Sorry that the quality of that picture is not so good.
