Epitaphs

Okay, so there are several different images used on gravestones to represent Man's mortality. Images such as the skull and hourglass are relatively common in our church yards if you look hard enough.

Another indicator of Man's mortality can also be found by looking closely at the verses on some gravestones. These can give out the message...beware for you too will pass on one day!

So, for anyone who has looked at the images of mortality in this section, and who are feeling depressed already, be warned that things are just about to get a little worse.....!!!

An epitaph is graven here,

To warn thee Reader, death is near,

Now thou art reading mine.

Then watch and pray, for in short space,

Some stranger standing in thy place,

May ponder over thine.

From off my bed of pain and grief, The Lord hath set me free, So don’t lament but in due time, Prepare to follow me
