CAMBS/HUNTS GALLERY 3

HUNTINGDON. CHURCH : ALL SAINTS

The two images above come from the church of All Saints, Huntingdon. Above left, not sure what this is supposed to symbolise...any ideas anyone? Above left, now this fellow has seen better days! Looks as if the top part of his head has been damaged, as has the bottom near his mouth. Also looks to be pretty badly affected by years of the grime generated by Huntingdon city centre. Still, at least he is still in one piece (just) unlike several gargoyles seen later that day in the same general area, which appear to have suffered deliberate vandalism over the years.

OFFORD CLUNY. CHURCH : ALL SAINTS

CONNINGTON. CHURCH : ST MARY

OFFORD D'ARCY. CHURCH : ST PETER

After leaving Buckden, the photographs for which can be seen in the previous gallery, I made the short walk to Offord Cluny and Offord D'Arcy. The two gargoyles pictured top in the above block of four are from the Parish church at Offord Cluny. The image above left is from neighbouring Offord D'Arcy. Sadly, several damaged gargoyles can be found on each of these churches. A lovely part of the country though, and well worth a look if yoiu are in the area. To the right of that is a beautiful gargoyle, with mouth pulled wide in a typical medieval gesture. This comes from the redundant church of St Mary at Connington near to Yaxley, which is a few miles away from Peterborough.

ELTON. CHURCH : ALL SAINTS

The gargoyles pictured immediately above and below this text box all come from All Saints church Elton, a village mid way between Peterborough and Oundle on the Cambridgeshire/Northamptonshire border. The gargoyle pictured below left is one of the happiest looking that I have seen. What on earth that is to the right of that picture, I have simply no idea!

ORTON WATERVILLE. CHURCH : ST MARY

High up on the tower, with a dusting on snow on top. Shot on Easter Sunday morning 2008. A day when the whole of the Peterborough area woke to heavy snow.
